Country Music Association Awards Recap


The first of the four members that were to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Tammy Wynette, was announced. Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan both sang songs and told a bit about Tammy's musical background. George Richey, Tammy's husband accepted the award on her behalf.

Trace Adkins was the first of the Horizon nominees to be announced, and he sang "Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone."

Alan Jackson, backed by a large screen, displaying scenes from his video, sang "I'll Go On Loving You."

Neal McCoy joined the Lynns at the podium to present the Vocal Group of the Year

Winner: The Dixie Chicks


"Wide Open Spaces"

Second nominee for the Horizon award, Jo Dee Messina came out and sang her #1 hit, "Bye Bye."

The Wilkinson's sang "26 cents."

Tim McGraw sang "Just To See You Smile."

Sherié Austin and Billy Dean looked like the odd couple at the podium. Sherié being so petite, and Billy being so tall. Together they presented the Vocal Event of the Year

Winner: "You Don't Seem To Miss Me" by Patty Loveless with George Jones

Patty had to go immediately from winning her award to singing. She sang "Water Into Wine."

Next, the show went via satellite to Buffalo, NY where Garth Brooks was performing in concert. He announced Trisha Yearwood, and together they sang their new duet, "Where Your Love Leads."

Deana Carter presented the award for Male Vocalist of the Year next.

Winner: George Strait


"I Just Want To Dance With You"

The third nominee for the Horizon Award, Michael Peterson performed his hit, "Drink, Swear, Steal and Lie."

Mark Wills sang "I Do, Cherish You."

Steve Wariner sang the beautiful "Holes In The Floor Of Heaven."

Sara Evans, and Kenny Chesney, who looked like a midget next to the lovely Ms. Evans announced the Single of the Year winner.

Winner: "Holes In The Floor Of Heaven" by Steve Wariner

Lee Ann Womack, the fourth nominee for the Horizon award sang her latest single from her new CD, "A Little Past Little Rock."

The Female Vocalist of the Year was announced next by Bryan White

Winner: Trisha Yearwood
