Country Music Association Awards Recap

The second of the four members that were to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Elvis, was announced. Wynonna and Travis Tritt told about Elvis' background and sang several of his songs. Priscilla Presley accepted the award on Elvis' behalf.

The Dixie Chicks, the fifth and final nominee for the Horizon award sang "There's Your Trouble."

Now the moment came to announce the Horizon Award winner. Linda Davis and John Michael Montgomery came out to do the honors.

Winner: The Dixie Chicks

"I Can Love You Better"

Although not nominated this year, LeAnn Rimes attended the show, and sang her single, "Nothin' New Under The Moon."

Ricochet gave the award for the Radio Stations and DJ's. They did this fairly fast and I didn't catch them all. :(

The third of the four members that were to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, George Morgan, was announced. Randy Travis recalled George's career and sang some George Morgan's songs. Ana Morgan Trayner and Lorrie Morgan accepted the award on George's behalf.

Lila McCann sang "I Wanna Fall In Love."

"I Wanna Fall In Love"

Next, Reba McEntire sang the song that is also the title of her TV movie, "Forever Love" to thunderous applause, and several teary faces. The song is quite touching.

The last member to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame Bud Wendell, was announced. Mr. Wendell accepted the award, being the only living member inducted that night.

Sawyer Brown sang some of their song, "Six Days on the Road" then announced the winner of the Musician of the Year

Winner: Brent Mason

Since the last CMA Awardswe've lost many wonderful Country entertainers. Kathy Mattea read the list of those that have left us over the past year.

Owen Bradley, Helen Carter, Jerry Clower, Floyd Kramer, John Denver, Grandpa Jones, Royce Kendell, Nicolette Larson, Carl Perkins, Eddie Rabbit, Roy Rogers, Steve Sanders, Cliffie Stone, and Justin Tubb.

The Kinleys along with Diamond Rio's Marty Roe presented the award for Music Video of the Year

Winner: "This Kiss" by Faith Hill

One of the most touching moments of the night had to be Vince Gill's performance of the title cut from his new CD, "The Keys to Life," which he wrote after his dad passed away last year.

The night had only one award left to present, and Kris Kristofferson came out to present the Entertainer of the Year

Winner: Garth Brooks

"To Make You Feel My Love"

Since Garth wasn't in attendance that night, they cut to concert footage of him ending his show in Buffalo, NY. Then you heard Vince Gill say, "Must be present to win! Must be present to win!" and everyone cracked up.

All in all, the show was very enjoyable. I enjoyed the many performances, and of course Vince is always a delight to see and hear. The concert footage of Garth and Trisha was incredible and brought back many memories for me, not to mention brought a tear to my eye, knowing I won't be seeing him again this year.

I hope you enjoyed my review, and that by reading it, it brought back memories of the broadcast for you as well.
