The CMA awards had several historical achievements. The Dixie Chicks became the first group since Alabama, in 1984, to snag the coveted Entertainer of the Year award. Faith and Tim picked up the Female and Male awards, and this also made history, as they are the first husband and wife to do this. Montgomery Gentry broke the eight year run of Brooks and Dunn for Vocal Duo. Lee Ann Womack's touching "I Hope You Dance" grabbed both Single and Song of the Year. George Strait and Alan Jackson picked up the Vocal Collaboration Award for "Murder on Music Row."
