The year 2002 saw many artists leaving their labels, and some getting signed. Below you'll find a list of these artists:

  • Rhett Akins signs with Audium.
  • Eric Heatherly is released from Mercury, and signs with Dreamworks.
  • Dwight Yoakam leaves Warner Brothers.
  • J. Michael Harter signs with Broken Bow.
  • Deana Carter signs with Arista Nashville.
  • Clay Walker signs with RCA.
  • Earl Thomas Conley and Johnny Rodriguez sign with Sunbird.
  • Little Big Town signs with Sony Monument.
  • 3 of Hearts is dropped from RCA.
  • Rick Ferrell and Jolie & The Wanted are dropped from DreamWorks.
  • Pam Tillis signed with Sony's Lucky Dog.
  • Chad Brock & Craig Morgan both signed with Broken Bow.
  • Chely Wright leaves MCA Nashville.
  • Junior Brown leaves Curb Records.
  • Rodney Redman signed by Audium.
  • Clint Black departs RCA.
  • Tommy Shane Steiner departs RCA.
  • Mindy McCready departs Capitol Nashville.
  • Joe Diffie signs with C4 Records.
  • Lisa Brokup signs with Curb Records.

  • A new label was formed by Tim DuBois and Tony Brown. First artist was Joe Nichols, who gets a #1 record off the bat with "The Impossible." Other artists on the label - Dean Miller, Allison Moorer, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Bering Strait, Reggie Hamm, Steven Delopoulos, Chad Mullins, and Holly Lamar.

And lastly, we said goodbye to several artists in 2002:

  • Waylon Jennings passed away on February 13th.
  • Harlan Howard passed away on March 3rd.
  • Mickey Newberry passed away on September 28th.
