16 Biggest Hits - Collin Raye | |

Reviewed by Matt Bjorke
While Garth Brooks and company were out winning numerous awards for their country music hits, Collin Raye quietly amassed more than 20 hits from 1991-2001. On 16 Biggest Hits, Collin's third release (and second hits package after Super Hits) to be released in 2002, this album does indeed include 16 of his biggest hits.
Starting in chronological order with his first big smash hit "Love, Me" the album presents what Collin Raye has become known for; being a wonderful ballad singer. Sure, uptempo tracks like "That's My Story," "My Kid Of Girl" and "I Can Still Feel You" show that he's a versatile artist, but the ballads are where Collin has made his money.
While he has two greatest hits packages previously, there are a couple tracks here that weren't available on the other two releases. "Somebody Else's Moon" was the second single off the In This Life album and became the third of four hit ballads.
The Hugh Prestwood-penned "On The Verge" is the other hit to make it onto this hits package. As one of my favorite songs Collin Raye has ever recorded, I was surprised that took a third greatest hits package for this wonderful Billboard Top 5 hit from 1995 to be included with the other more recognizable hits.
No Collin Raye "hits" collection would be complete without a few signature songs on it. All three collections have included "Little Rock." This hit from 1994 wasn't the first single off the Extremes album yet it's often called Collin's best work ever. I can't disagree for this is the song that got me to love country music.
"I Think About You" is the title track and No. 1 hit from 1995. The video was a memorable one and featured Collin's daughter.
"Not That Different" is the song that got Collin an award. The video, with the beautiful imagery about human people being the same as others despite perceived differences highlights Joie Scott and Karen Taylor-Good's awesome lyrics.
"Love, Me" is the first track here and next to "Little Rock," it is probably Collin's most noted song. This song, about eternal love, was his first No. 1 hit at both the Billboard and the Radio and Records charts.
While Super Hits contained ten of the 16 songs on 16 Biggest Hits and Direct Hits contained eleven, for about the same price, you get an album of the same quality.
