The Color of Roses is the latest release from veteran Nashville artist Lorrie Morgan. It is a multi-media release from Image Entertainment consisting of a Live DVD/CD and will also be broadcast on DirectTV.
With this project, Lorrie is fulfilling a long-time dream of hers to offer a live concert recording for her fans. This DVD is sure to be an asset to any music collection. Lorrie is completely at home on the stage and it is easy to see why she has such a strong fan base. In fact, Lorrie is so in touch with her fans that when she decided to do this project they were offered first choice of tickets through her website.
Lorrie covers several spectrums of the musical scale during this very enjoyable concert. She starts out in black leather pants with a silver sequined halter-top and sings some of the songs that we equate with Lorrie Morgan. She opens with "Watch Me" and continues with several songs that showcase her sassy personality. In the middle of this set, Lorrie and several members of her band pull up some stools to do some "picking" and "singing." One notable song from that session is a song that brings back many fond memories, "Harper Valley PTA." Lorrie definitely does justice to this song.
The next segment seems to showcases Lorrie in her role as a very beautiful and strong woman. She dons an elegant black evening gown to sing such songs as "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," and "Half Enough," among others. Lorrie looks very classy and in full control of her own destiny.
For the final segment, Lorrie shows us her soft and romantic side. She changes costumes again and comes out with an ankle-length cream/yellow gown with several necklaces that show off her great tan. When she starts to sing "1-800-Used To Be," she can be found in the middle of the appreciative audience and she makes her way down the aisle while singing. The other thing that makes this segment special is Nashville's Belmont University School of Music Orchestra. There is just something about a full orchestra behind a great voice that makes the whole atmosphere change. This is the part of the show where Lorrie chooses to sing her new single, "The Color of Roses." This is a very pretty song and her sultry voice is perfect for it.
Along with the great live show, the DVD also offers a few extras. You can hear an exclusive interview with Lorrie on a variety of subjects. You can see the room in her home where several of her awards and special memorabilia from her career are displayed. There are also two audio tracks that are studio cuts of "Help Me Make It Through The Night," and "The Color of Roses." This is a project that has been done very well. You are taken to a concert without leaving the comfort of your home.
