He helped to write the song, and actually it is a bit of an autobiography for him. He has performed it to appreciative crowds including on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. It starts off with a military marching song melody before becoming a great ballad. It chronicles the everyday life and feelings of a soldier. It is a very patriotic song.
"I Want Us Back" is the latest single release and has enjoyed solid airplay. It is about two people slowly growing apart. He wants to bring back what they had. They have put too much into the relationship to just let it fall apart without a fight. "Something To Write Home About" has him writing a long overdue to his parents at home, filling them in on his life since he moved away. He tells them everything is going fine, they are treating him well at his job, but now he finally has something to write home about. He says, "She has long blond hair and deep blue eyes," and goes on to describe the things that draws him to her. He says he's in love and he's sure they would be proud. "302 South Maple Avenue" is a song that makes you want to go back to your roots. It is an address that describes the good suburban life. Three bedrooms, two baths and a one-car garage. Second mortgage, two kids later they are still going strong. It gives a warm fuzzy feeling. "When A Man Can't Get A Woman Off His Mind" is a true country ballad. He is going crazy trying to get her off his mind. He can't sleep at night because the image of her keeps going through his mind. He says his love for her has such a grip on him it chokes him like a vine. Bill Anderson was one of the songwriters for this song. "Hush" has an interesting melody. If you listen beyond the music and go to the words of the song, it is about a subject that is rarely touched on. He is getting dressed up for a date - but not with his wife. His wife is busy doing what needs done to get the kids off to school, and then she cleans the kitchen. She puts together a TV tray and sits down, but it isn't coffee in her coffee cup that gets her through the day. The melody is what draws you to this song, but the words are haunting. The kids are who suffer because they have to listen to the fighting at night. One of the highlights of "I Wish I Could See Bakersfield" is a guest vocal appearance by Merle Haggard. It is a great song about no matter where you go, there is no place like home. Overall, this CD will appeal to the person who has a love of the traditional sounds of country music. Each and every track on the album has the traditional sound while still appealing to the newer country fans with the lyrics. Craig set out to record songs of the average life, and he seems to have succeeded. Hopefully we will be hearing much more from Craig Morgan in the future. Song List:
