neo-honky tonk singer. He sings quite smoothly here. The CD contains eight Dale Watson originals and four other songs including two classics.
With sparce arrangements, this Dale Watson Christmas CD is one that is very well done. There's no hint of slick over-production anywhere on this CD. On "Christmas In Vegas," Dale sings about celebrating Christmas in Las Vegas. Dale sings how every day is Christmas in Vegas. There is also a neat addition at the end where the line Christmas in Vegas is sung a-la Elvis' "Viva Las Vegas." On "The Christmas Song," Dale sings the Mel Torme classic as well as Nat King Cole once did. Definately one of my favorite versions of this classic. "Christmas Love" is a jazzy little duet with Audium Records label mate Danni Leigh. I'd really like to see these two do a whole duet CD after hearing them together. Another great reason to get this CD. "Honky Tonk Christmas?" Yep, what you'd expect from a self-professed honky tonk singer. He doesn't want any thing to do with slick country/pop. Here Dale is singing about wanting a fun Christmas and new year. On "You Can Call Me Nick" Dale sings a la Johnny Cash. He recitates the verses of this song and sings the shuffle chorus. It seems that 'ol Dale was arrested and placed in jail where he found a man who was called Nick. On "Santa Bring Her Back," Dale's singing a bit like Elvis, on this rockabilly styled song. Dale only wants his girl back saying he's been a good boy. If you really want a fun and enjoyable Christmas CD, pick up this instant holiday classic. Song List:
