The energetic group known as the Derailers have released their debut album with Lucky Dog Records. It is titled "Here Come The Derailers." After listening to their album, it seems appropriate. They are bringing a fresh sound into country music and livening things up just a little. They rely heavily on the sound that I associate with Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakum - the Telecaster. With it's distinctive sound and their great ability to harmonize - this group is a highly popular live act.

"More Of Your Love" starts out with the definite Buck Owens sound. They showcase their ability to harmonize on this song. As with most of the songs on this album, it requires your toes to tap along with them. It describes the basic need of a couple - love. He needs nothing but her love - material things are irrelevant.

"Bar Exam" is a good "drinking" song. He talks about getting his "degrees" in bar terms. He is taking a "bar" exam under a neon sign and "graduate" when she is off his mind. This is a traditional country sound for those true country fans.

"Your Guess Is Good As Mine" has a different sound to it. He doesn't know where they go from here - but they'll play it by ear. They will just follow life where it leads and see what happens. Upbeat tune.

"Country A Go-Go" is an upbeat tune and showcases some great instrumentals. In fact, it is entirely instrumental. You can tell the guys are having a blast "showing off" their many talents.

"All The Rage In Paris" plays on destinations. Much like an old Tammy Wynette/George Jones duet that comes to mind, they use a "famous" city of the world that you can find right here in the United States. Unlike George and Tammy, this group sticks entirely in Texas for this one. It isn't exactly a "slow" song - but they did slow it down for this one. He remembers them being "all the rage in Paris" fondly.

"Mohair Sam" seems to be their choice for a "fun" song on this album. It asks who is the coolest guy who ever lived. The answer is of course "fast talking, slow walking, good looking, Mohair Sam." He has them all "waitin' in line." It is just kind of a cute little song to lighten things up.

"There Goes The Bride" is probably my favorite song on the album. I like the musical arrangement and it is another fun one to listen to. Although the premise isn't all that happy for a song, it is pretty much a standard as far as a good "country" song goes. She left him standing at the alter and turned tail and ran. He gives it a humorous outlook.

Basically, this is a really enjoyable album to listen to. If you are already a fan of the sounds of Buck Owens or Dwight Yoakum like I am, then you will most likely enjoy this album. It will also appeal to those who like the musical combination of Bakersfield, Texas Twang and Rockabilly. This is a talented group and I look forward to hearing more from them. They seem to really enjoy doing what they do.
