(Cut By Cut)
line

David gives his thoughts about the songs on 2001.

1. One Memory At A Time (David Frizzell)

"This is one of my favorite love ballads that I have ever written. I love the subject matter, somebodyleaves, somebody's left behind and it seems they never take anything with them, there's always something that will remind you of the one that's gone. This is also my favorite type of melody, slow and really builds into the chorus."

2. I Ain't Going If There Ain't No Hank (David Frizzell, David AC Kohut)

"My friend David AC Kohut has the best off the wall songwriting mind in the business; the Hank and Jesse James songs were his brainstorm."

3. She's Not In My Bed (David Frizzell, Dennis Knutson)

"I had the hook & melody for this song. I showed my brother Allen the idea and he came up with the first lines, then the song laid around the house for a long time. One day a great songwriter friend of mine, Dennis Knutson, dropped by the house and I showed him the idea and the song was finally written."

4. Back In Over My Head (David Frizzell)

"I love the chord progression in this song, playing with the offbeat; I first heard that done in a Beatles song long ago. I also love the idea about the guy grabbing his guitar and thumbing a ride, but not getting too far away. This is one of the first duets I did with Peggy Rains; she is a very talented and special lady."

5. Baby Don't Love Here Anymore (David Frizzell)

"I've always been a fool over sad love songs; on this song you've said it all when you said 'Baby Don't Love Here Anymore.'"

6. When Can We Do This Again? (David Frizzell, David AC Kohut)

"Some friends came over one evening. My wife Jo cooked an incredible dinner for us. My friend said, this is the best dinner I've had, "When can we do this again?" I wrote the song that very night."

7. You've Just Been Robbed By Jesse James (David Frizzell, David AC Kohut)

"This song was not designated for the album originally because I thought it was too much of a reach and wouldn't match the album. Once recorded, it not only matched, it became our choice for the first single."

8. A Love That Might Have Been (Staci Peters, T. Castleton)

"Working with Peggy and introducing her to you the listener is a pleasure. Her enthusiasm for the project and her freshness as an artist made this love song even more special."

9. The Good Book (David Frizzell)

"At church one day my wife Jo and I were given a bible by the pastor and his wife. After church, Jo and I got in the car and she tossed the bible into my lap, and I told her, "Hey you hit me with the good book." The song was written by the next day."

10. Could It Be We Fell In Love Tonight (David Frizzell)

"This is the first recording of Frizzell & Rains to see if our voices matched. Peggy has a very fine, natural low register voice that blends well with mine. When I wrote this song, I pictured two people who realized for the first time that they've fallen in love. All the other times they've been together was nice and great, but tonight they were in love, not just making love."

11. Hiding The Pain (David Frizzell)

"When I was writing this song I made believe I was my brother Lefty. This is the kind of song he wrote so well. The first line "Would you pour me a glass of water, so I can chase this whiskey down," is a vintage Lefty phrase."

12. I'm Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home (Dewaybe Blackwell)

"I didn't write this song, but when I first heard it, I knew it was a hit song, and it was -- for me, in 1982. I was told Wino is still one of the most played songs in country music, and we were not surprised when we received a plaque stating over one million airplay."
