The Girls' Guide to Country is a fun book that takes a look at the styles, hair, clothes and music of many of today's country stars. While many genres of music have an even balance of male and female listeners, country has an abundance of female fans. This book addresses that fact with tips for girls in a delightful and engaging way.
Some of the various chapters are:
"Seven Essential Hunks," where you'll get a little background (and eye candy) on what they consider seven guys that define the genre. What I thought was an interesting approach is that it's written for someone who might be new to country. It lists Song you've probably heard, as well as Female fan favorite, and tells Why he's essential.
In "Treasure Hunting at the Hall of Fame" we get a tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and a description of five items that are easy to overlook, but items that girls might particularly enjoy. We're treated to descriptions of Mother Maybelle's guitar, Dolly Parton's wig, and others. Plus there is a bit of history given here as well.
"Building the Perfect Country Star" does just that. They give him John Carter Cash's name, Garth Brooks eyes, George Jones' voice, and well, you'll have to read to see what other traits this perfect star has. It's an interesting combination. At the end of each chapter is a list of album suggestions for fans to try.
"Record Shopping With Pam Tillis" takes us into the Ernest Tubb Record Store in Nashville, where Pam gives some suggestions, excluding her own or her dad's music that will "do our hearts good."
"Loretta Lynn School of Success" takes a look at her autobiographical film Coal Miner's Daughter, and gives tips from her life on how to become a country star.
"Dixie Chic" talks about the clothes and designers of the stars.
If you're looking for a book that talks about what awards people won, and historical facts, this is probably not the book for you. But if you want a fun read about clothes of the stars, suggestions on music to buy, what the best songs to sing karaoke to, females and males with the best hair... well you get the picture. This is your book. Oh, and don't forget the cute paper dolls. They're a hoot! There's even some alcoholic beverage recipes for drinks like "Sex on the Beach," and "Alabama Slammer."
Most of the stars are those that you see on CMT often, however some legendary artists make an appearance as well. I'd say this book is aimed at the teen - 30's female fans. Although, I'm over that age and I enjoyed it as well.
