Craig Collins has released It's All In Your Head on Independent Label Rogue Records. After listening to the CD I was more than happy to write up a review on it. Listening to his deep voice belting out some great country that is traditional and leaning on honky-tonk, I was glad I opted to give the CD a chance. Along with a great singing voice, he is also a talented songwriter. He wrote or co-wrote eight of the ten tracks on the album. Each one sounds like it could hold it's own in any given country hangout. David Allen Coe, Bill Anderson, Neal McCoy and Blackhawk are some of the many country acts that have chosen Craig as their opening act. Given a chance, I can see Craig's star shooting all the way to the top.
The first single release is "It's All In Your Head." Craig penned this song and it is a love song that really flows. It is more of a story of meeting someone and what thoughts go through your head while contemplating what could happen down the road. I enjoy songs that aren't just repetition of a chorus.
"Is It Raining At Your House" is one of the two songs that Craig didn't write. It is also one of the slower ballads on the album. This song has a melancholy feel to it, which his deep voice completely enhances.
"His Story" is a lyrical play on words. It takes you from start to finish in the relationship and not only is it HIS story, but it is "history." The lyrics are great.
Chalee Tennison was one of the contributing writers on "It's My Turn." This song is all about taking your own life back. While it is good to think of others, there is a time to make decisions for you.
"Just What I Need" has a rhythm that will draw you into the song. It runs through a list of a few things that fall into the "just what I need" category. A term that comes to mind on most of the list is "wishful thinking."
This is an album that deserves a listen. For those that love the traditional country and are lamenting the loss of good traditional artists, Craig may help to start the healing process. He has a very traditional sound, while outwardly he has the contemporary look. He is a true example of not judging the book by the cover.
