CD Review: I'm Already There - Lonestar

line I'm Already There line

I'm Already There is Lonestar's fifth release, and the follow-up to the triple-platinum selling Lonely Grill, and one that is sure to follow in the previous album's footsteps in popularity.

With the Dixie Chicks taking the year off, this could be the year for Lonestar to start cleaning up at the award shows in the group category. This album has a one-two punch that will get you listening if you hadn't before, and keep you listening if you're already a fan.

The mixture of songs is in the same vein as those on Lonely Grill, with ballads that Richie wraps his voice around and takes you to heaven with, and rockin' tunes to make you want to get up and dance, even if you have two left feet.

The album starts out with the fast-paced "Out Go The Lights" which is one I definitely see as a future single. Anyone that thinks that Richie is only awesome on ballads needs only to listen to this one to show they are wrong in that thought. He sings, "And girl I want to take it slow and let a candle burn down, 'till our bodies are one, breathless in the afterglow."

The second tune is one written by Mark McGuinn ("Mrs. Steven Rudy"), entitled "Unusually Unusual." This is another upbeat, fun tune with some really... well, unusual lyrics. "And her diamond eyes, different in color, held me captive in their light. And she said, 'Hey man, did you know we used to be brothers in some past life?" This is another one that is a sure single.

"Not a Day Goes By" is another great ballad about the aftermath of a relationship ending. The guy can't seem to forget her.

"I Want To Be The One" was co-written by Lari White along with hubby Chuck Cannon and Gary Nicholson. It's a slow song where he's asking her to let him be the one to love her. "I wanna make you see the possibility of all that we can be."

In "With Me" he talks about how he feels "when you're with me I feel like singing. It's like I'm swing the whole planet on the end of my chain." It's a very fun and upbeat song.

In contrast, on the other end of the spectrum, "Without You" talks again about the feelings after a breakup. This is probably the only song I don't really care for on the album. It's just too draggy.

The title cut is sitting at the top of Billboard's singles chart for the fourth week as I write this review. The song speaks to a lot of people that have to be parted from their loved ones. This gives some comfort in that absence. It doesn't have to be husband and wife, it can be friends, or a parent and child. I wouldn't be surprised if this got a nomination or two at this year's CMA awards.

"Let's Bring It Back" is a nice mid-tempo song that has a 50s sound to it. "Let's bring it back. A true love that lasts. Let's take a chance at spending a lifetime together."

"Must Be Love" has a very different, grittier sound to it. You gotta love a song that says, "I'm goin' down, getting dizzy. Can't get enough of your kissy kissy." Very upbeat and fun.

Just reading the title "Softly" would lead you to believe it's a syrupy ballad. And you'd be right. The song talks about falling in love "softly."

"Every Little Thing She Does" is a funky song that talks about how the guy loves the girl no matter what she does. "Ooh, in a corner at a party, she puts down her drink, gives me a little wink and says wait til I get you home."

"Like a Good Cowboy" talks about how things change so much. Everyone does everything with cellphones, and there's a Burger King where cattle used to roam.

There is no doubt that this will be another big hit for Lonestar. The album has at least three more #1 songs on it besides the title cut. This is another one for any country music fan's collection. A bit of rock, a bit of country, and a lot of great sounding music.
