Jennifer's Texas Country

Dateline: January 6, 2003

Last month I spotlighted Jason Boland & The Stragglers (in all of their "Pearl Snaps" shirt glory); this month I will feature Owen Temple, a twenty-six year old who definitely is not just "Passing Though" the music scene.

Born in Kerrville, Texas, Owen has always been interested in life's contradicting situations, and that fact is relevant in most of his songs and albums. His feeling is that simple songs that require no thinking are just not good enough for the listeners because they offer up no honesty.

Merle Haggard and Hank Williams are just a couple country music artists whose work he admires and whose influences you can find on all three of his albums, yet Owen says that he often identifies himself as folk along with country. He loves the sound of a fiddle, nice harmonies, and a steel guitar in any artist's music - especially in his own and he makes the kind of country music that he likes.

Texas radio stations have been quick to embrace Owen because of the interesting songs he writes and the way he performs them with such a passion that a listener cannot help but get into whatever he plays. Acoustically or backed by a band, Owen Temple can do it all.
