Over eight thousand talented (and not so talented) guys and gals auditioned for one of twelve spots in the finals, which had its perks in addition to the chance to perform live and possibly gain a Sony recording contract; A chance to stay in a house on Music Row and getting more than fifteen minutes of fame are only two of the many other perks.
Every week, the contestants will be required to sing a different type of country song that has already been pre-determined. The list of categories are as follows: Nashville Classics, Styles of Country, Pop Goes Country, Original Songs, Number Ones, and Duet. During week six viewers will get a treat as that category has not yet been determined. Now, since I admit I am partial to the Texans, here is a mini profile for the finalists that are from or reside in the Lone Star State. Kristen Kissling - She currently lives in Austin, Texas and is a twenty-two year old, high-energy pre-school teacher that wants to show her wild style and spunk. She prefers singing contemporary (or poptry as many call it) country music. Miranda Lambert - The youngest competitor at ninteen years old and hailing from Lindale, Texas, Miranda is the girl I am rooting for. Already with a huge following throughout the state of Texas, she writes and sings most of her songs and loves to be out on the road touring with her band. John Arthur Martinez - Known around Austin for singing traditional country music with many parts being in Spanish, forty-one year old John runs an independent label in between managing his budding career and being a part of his children's lives back in Marble Falls, Texas. Prentiss Varnon - Prentiss, from Uvalde, takes pride in the fact that his style is of the traditional variety influenced mainly by George Strait and Garth Brooks. He also says that living on the Texas/Mexico border has also inspired him. When not singing, he sells hats or works as a part-time car salesman. The rest of the group includes a multitude of styles ranging from "bluesy and brassy" to a former Patsy Cline imitator. If you want to read about the rest of the twelve finalists, head on over to the "Nashville Star" Website. Then sit back and enjoy the talent starting March 8th on USA Network.
