Jennifer's Texas Country

Dateline: July 1, 2002

Last month I spotlighted Libbi Bosworth (Mayor of "Libbiville"); this month I will feature Cooder Graw, a group that likes to perform loud in-your-face country music.

Cooder Graw is consisted of lead singer and guitar player Matt Martindale, with Joe Ammons, Kelly Turner, Jim Whisenhunt, Paul Baker, and Nick Worley making up the backing band and vocals. These west Texas natives met up and immediately knew that they had what it takes to become a popular force to be reckoned with in Texas and the surrounding states.

This band is one that gets popular with each spin of their songs and their rising success has earned them appearances with top acts like Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam, Clint Black, and many more. They have also been lucky enough to perform at Gruene Hall, Billy Bob's of Texas, and the Texas Hall of Fame.

When you hear Cooder Graw, whether it is for the first time or the thousandth, you can feel the unbridled energy that the guys possess. It seems like it is never-ending and a person could get tired just from listening to an album or seeing them in concert. Every song could be their specialty because the fans automatically take to the lyrics that are easy to relate to.

Their extremely popular song "Llano Estacado" was featured in a Texas Dodge commercial, and now Cross Canadian Ragweed is featured on one as well. This is, no doubt, proof that Texas Country is becoming a thing that is more in the forefront of the public, in Texas at least. People are starting to recognize the talented folks we have here and even though I would hope that everyone in any country would be able to enjoy them, sometimes I think how nice it would be to keep Texas' "undiscovered gems" all to ourselves.
