Jennifer's Texas Country

Dateline: July 7, 2003

Last month I spotlighted Adam Carroll (a guy who likes to write about the humorous side of life); this month I will feature Tracy Byrd, a guy who has been around playing country music for at least eleven years, and that is only nationally.

Locally, in Beaumont, Texas, Tracy was first "discovered" while he was singing the old Hank Williams tune "Your Cheatin' Heart" in a so-called recording studio in the local mall. From there he went on to singing in monthly talent shows and his success gave him the confidence to set his goals a little higher. To make a living he had various jobs during the day but at night he played in Mark Chesnutt's band. The two became friends way back then and remain close to this day.

Shortly after joining Mark's band he went out to tour on the national circuit it seemed like Tracy was back to square one - but he wasn't. He decided to form his own band, Only Way To Fly, which had

steady gigs at the bar he used to play at with Chesnutt. After a failure in Nashville the first time, he went back only to become MCA's newest signee.

After having a minor hit in 1992 with "That's The Thing About A Memory" only to have his second hit number fifty on the charts. The third time was the charm though because "Holdin' Heaven'" seemed to have rocketed to the number one place on the charts in 1993.

Some of the greatest music was released by Tracy in the nineties including songs like "Lifestyles of the Not So Rich & Famous," "Keeper of the Stars," "Watermelon Crawl," and "I'm From the Country." As the year 2000 hit there was not a peep from the singer, but when 2001 rolled around boy was he back in business.

That year Tracy released Ten Rounds, a widely successful album that produced yet another number one for the star - "Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo." The Latin-flavored "Just Let Me Be In Love" also helped boost sales for the album. After one mini break and one baby boy later, Tracy returned yet again with yet another album that is sure to be the talk of the country music town. If the first single, "The Truth About Men" is any indication of what is to come music-wise and single-wise from him, there's no telling where Tracy will go in the future and his immense staying power is only bound to become stronger.
