Jennifer's Young Country
line

Dateline: September 3, 2001

Since many of the artist's I have done a previous "Young Country" Column on have gone on to do many more newsworthy things, I figured that it would be neat to give a mini update on some of those artists/groups.

LeAnn Rimes:

February 1st, Leann posted a notice to her Official Website that started out with "As many or all of you know, this has been a difficult year for me! In the year before I turned 18 and since, I have been working on getting my business set up in a way that I would like to see it. Unfortunately, in order to do that I had to file a lawsuit against my previous manager and my father."

In March of 2001, she appeared on "Access Hollywood" to talk about the troubles with her record company and father.

April 11, she performed on the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.

On May 9, 2001 LeAnn hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards as well as performed twice (she sang "Can't Fight the Moonlight" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow").

Later on in the month, Leann performed at the "World Sports" Award show.

Billy Gilman

Since December of 2000, Billy Gilman has released a brand new album called "Dare to Dream." The first single was the up-tempo, "She's My Girl," and featured a cute video of Billy roaming around the city, performing, and talking to the girls that went to the show. As of right now, his latest video and single is "Elisabeth," a slow song.

Jessica Andrews:

Jessica Andrews and Billy Gilman are currently touring the country with their "=29 Tour." The title cut from her latest album, "Who I Am," became her very first number one and it was well-deserved. The newly released single and video is from her song, "Helplessly, Hopelessly," and is currently sitting at number 33 on Billboard and the R&R Charts. On specially marked boxes of Kellog's cereal you can find a special offer to receive a CD of songs from some of country's hottest new talents - "Good Friend To Me" is the one Jess sings. One more bit of news is that she is up for the Horizon Award at the 2001 CMA Awards.

Rascal Flatts:

On July 4, Rascal Flatts showed their patriotism and performed the National Anthem at the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles game.

Rascal Flatts received the Top New Vocal Duet/Group award from the Academy of Counrty Music Awards on May 9th.

August 12, the group hosted Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton

August 21, Country Weekly featured Gary, Jay, and Joe Don in their magazine.

A big accomplishment, on August 30 the guy's self-titled debut album was certified gold (sales over 500,000 units) by the R.I.A.A.

Nickel Creek:

Nickel Creek keeps travelling on spreading their love of musicianship and racking up award nominations. For this year's CMA's they are up for Vocal Group of the Year and the Horizon Award. For this year's Bluegrass Awards they are nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Instrumental Group of the Year, and Chris Thile for Mandolin Instrumental Performers.

Lila McCann:

Lila McCann will soon release her new single "Because of You." She continues to tour in support of her latest release, "Complete."
