Jennifer's Young Country
line

Dateline: December 4, 2000

Last month I spotlighted LeAnn Rimes, (the person that set the stage for the current pack of teenage performers); this month I will feature the most current youngster to hit the scene -- twelve-year-old Billy Gilman.

Before Billy had an album out, he became the youngest person to have a Top 5 hit on Billboard's Country Singles Chart. The song that helped him achieve that record status, was "One Voice," a beautiful song about how people should listen to each other before problems (such as violence) occur. His current single ("Oklahoma") is about a boy that went to Oklahoma to live with his dad and new family, after living with foster parents for seven months or so.

Though he only has one regular album under his belt, Billy released one for Christmas also. It is entitled "Classic Christmas," and includes a duet with a young classical singer by the name of Charlotte Church.

This young man has the talent and charisma to make it big in the business, all we have to do is sit back and enjoy watching him make it to the top.

Billy Gilman Poll
Do you think Billy Gilman is too young to be performing at this level?

Yes, he should be in school!
Maybe. But I really like him, and think he is mature for his age.
No way. He's doing what he loves to do!
