Jimmy Wayne's self titled debut album really shows the promise of his singing and songwriting abilities. Out of the thirteen tracks, he co-wrote eight along with some help from the likes of Marv Green, Aimee Mayo, Chris Lindsey, and D. Vincent Williams. The knack he has for conveying tender emotion just blows me away, especially on first single, "Stay Gone."

There is just something about Jimmy's voice when he sings ballads and "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me?" would make any woman swoon after listening to the song about a man longing to hear the answer to his all to important question. Instead of wasting time, sometimes you have to face things head on which is what the man wants to do.

Another slow song, "Stay Gone," is the first single that has already made its way into the Billboard Top 5 singles and tracks list, and introduced me to Jimmy's wonderful voice. The tender song about loving and losing someone hits the listener's heart and makes them feel every note right along with Jimmy. As long as he knows the former girlfriend will be staying away from him, he thinks he will make it through the ordeal just fine.

"Trespassin'" is an up tempo tune that is fun to listen to as the lyrics spin a tale of a young couple that drives up to a building with a no trespassing sign and has some fun of their own once they get walk in. Only later does the listener figure that it is a man recalling the tangled hair and holding hands in the form of memories as he wonders where that girl is that very night he was remembering her.

A song about best friends so close they called each other brothers, "Blue and Brown" is about two pals that played football on different teams but at the end of the day they knew "the colors didn't count." Later on after many years of losing touch, the main character had gone on to become a cop and one day while putting prisoners in their cells he recognized that former friend and as he put the key in the cell the prisoner said that he knew he was just doing his job yet later he cried anyway because of the sadness of his "friend for life" becoming a crook.

"You're the One I'm Talking To" is an interpretation of what Jimmy says much of the world is missing - honesty, individuality, true love, and kids growing up with a true sense of reality. Life is not all about wearing designer jeans along with acting and looking like everyone else walking around. "I'm tired of all the hip and uninspired saying cool is in and good is out. I bet I've got your attention now and if I don't then you're the one I'm talking to" is what Jimmy sings in the song's great chorus.

This is a great debut from Jimmy Wayne and I do look forward to seeing how far along his musical career will go. Though I do love his slow songs, if I had only one complaint it is that I wish he would have had more up tempo songs to balance out the slow ones because from what I can tell he can sound great on both.
