Early musical influences: "I think the very first [country music] I ever heard was at my grandma's house. She loved music - The Stanley Brothers, The Osborne Brothers, a lot of gospel quartets and old Opry stars, Waylon and Johnny Cash.
Grand Ole Opry debut: December 21, 2001, when Josh introduced "Long Black Train" and his deep, rich voice to a hungry audience. "All of a sudden, people started standing up and cheering. I wasn't even through with the song yet! I had two more verses and a chorus to go. By the end of the song, everybody was on their feet. I was in awe, just in shock." And then host Bill Anderson asked him to play it again, for which Josh received a second standing ovation.
First country album he bought: Storms of Life - Randy Travis
Early singing group: As a teen, Josh started the young men's quarted Thankful Hearts, which toured churches throughout South Carolina.
Favorite pastimes: fishing and hunting.
Current single: "Long Black Train," which Josh wrote one night after listening to the entire Hank Williams Sr. box set in the library at Nashville's Belmont University, from which he graduated in 2001 with a degree in vocal performance.
