| No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems Concert Review | |
There was a 25 minute break after Montgomery Gentry's show before Kenny Chesney started his show. I got my camera and stood near the front of the stage. They had video for his part of the show, so we couldn't stand right next to the stage. Actually, it seemed that everyone would tell me to move this way and that, so I'm lucky I got pictures at all. :D
Kenny started his show behind a white screen, singing "Young." Very neat effect. You could see his silouette, and tell it was him very clearly, and then he came out and down the steps to the stage.
The second song was "It Don't Happen Twice," and then it was time to give up (reluctantly) my camera and try to find my seat in the crowd.
Kenny didn't talk overly much. Many times during songs videos would play behind him. One notable time was when he sang "Big Star," from his recent album. There were still shots of The Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, the Judds, Minnie Pearl, Trisha Yearwood, and other non-country female stars. During "Where I Come From" they showed the video behind him, which was taped while he was touring with George Strait. During "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems," they showed lots of video of Kenny down in the Islands having a great time.
One thing I remember from the first time I saw Kenny, which was on the George Strait tour in 1999 was the big orange balls they toss in the crowd during "How Forever Feels." There must have been about 20 of them, and they really connected the audience as we would play.
Another cool moment was when Kenny covered a Conway Twitty tune, "Lay Me Down." At the end of the song they flashed a photo of Conway with the years of his birth and death. I thought that was nice, plus I thought Kenny did the song really well.
Kenny has a ton of charisma, and girls go nuts over him. He puts on a great show with tons of hits, plus covers that he does just as well. If he's coming your way, do yourself a favor and pick up a ticket and enjoy a great night of entertainment. The whole tour is well-done, and all the performers mesh really well.
Here is the song list from Kenny's show:
One thing I do remember Kenny saying is that the tour was No Shirt, No Shoes, and No Problems, and he told us to check our problems at the gate. He also thanked country radio for loving country music. Also, I don't remember Kenny ever playing guitar, but he must have and I just didn't notice. He did play guitar in several songs, but for the most part he just sings... and so well. :)
