This was my third time seeing keith urban live. The first time was back in 2000 when he opened for Martina McBride at Konocti Harbor Resort. The second time was last year at the Hilton, opening for Trisha Yearwood. This year he was the headliner, with Trick Pony opening the show.
Keith is an exceptional talent. He sings, he writes, and he plays a mean guitar... plus he's sure easy on the eyes.
As the stage crew was removing Trick Pony's set and setting up keith's set, I saw one of the crew come out and light some sticks of incense. I do recall reading somewhere that keith likes a certain brand of incense when he plays. I was in the 5th row and couldn't really smell it, but I'll bet it was a cool scent.
Keith opened the show with "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me," then moved into "When The Blacktop Ends." From there, he introduced his band. Next came "Whenever I Run," from his latest album. He thanked everyone for coming, saying he knows that there is a lot going on and he appreciated people coming to see the show.
Keith's first number one was next, "But For The Grace of God." Then his recent number one (which stayed on top for 6 weeks), "Somebody Like You." Keith thanked everyone for "pestering radio with requests for that song."
Next, keith told a story of when he was playing in Dollywood, and went back to his hotel, which was right next to a country church. There was a couple getting married, and he heard his song "Your Everything" played. He said he thought it would be fun to go in and sing it for them live, so he knocked on the door and the bride's father answered and said "Yeah, what do you want?" and keith said "That's my song played in there, and I thought maybe I could sing it for the bride & groom live." So, the father says "Ok." Then, keith kidded that he only charged them $2,000 for it. Then, said "No, really it was only $1,500, but tonight it's free of charge." He performed it acoustically, sitting on a stool, and it sounded wonderful!
Still on the stool, keith brought his other players out and they all sat around and played along with "Jeans On," and then "You Look Good In My Shirt."
Last was his first single, "It's a Love Thing," which got everyone back on their feet. After that, he left the stage, and then returned for an encore to sing his latest single, "Raining On Sunday."
If you have enjoyed keith's music, you'd definitely love seeing him live. He's so talented, not to mention cute! I highly recommend taking in one of his shows.
