This is Kenny's first Christmas CD. Inside the cover, you read about Kenny's past few Christmas holidays spent in the Island. He also says that many of his Christmas' were spent in East Tennessee, so you will hear influences from both places.

There is a definite island feel to "All I Want For Christmas is a Real Good Tan." He talks about what he wants for Christmas. "Take me to the islands, put my feet in the sand. Rocking to and fro with the rhythm of the ocean. Singing 'Silent Night' with the palm trees blowin'." This song fits Kenny to a T, and is fun to listen to.

I love the tropical arrangement of "Jingle Bells." It's one of the neatest versions I've heard yet. Very different.

Kenny's "I'll Be Home For Christmas" is very traditional sounding, but has a light tropical feel to it, with steel drums and a beautiful acoustic guitar. Very mellow and nice.

Kenny has two duets on the album. The first "Christmas in Dixie" is an Alabama favorite, and Randy Owen from the group sings along with Kenny here. It's a winner. I love how they say "Merry Christmas from Fort Payne... Merry Christmas from Knoxville, TN..." at the end of the song. The other duet is Willie Nelson's classic "Pretty Paper." Again, it's really done well. Kenny and Willie sound great together.

Two of my favorite songwriters, Skip Ewing and Kent Blazy wrote "Just a Kid," which tells the story of Jesus, and how the Pharisees said that the story of Jesus is just a "Hebrew prophecy," and that he's just a kid, how can he be a king. Great song!

Another new song is "The Angel At The Top Of My Tree." Kenny co-wrote this gons with Dean Dillon and Buddy Cannon. He talks about his special lady being the angel at the top of his tree. He talks about his plans for her during the holiday. He says she's the "best present anybody ever gave to me."

"Silent Night" is done traditionally and features Kenny's own mom and aunt (The Girgsby Twins). It's easy to see where Kenny got his vocal talent.

This is a very enjoyable Christmas album. A little different in places, a little traditional in others. I'll definitely be playing this often during the holiday.
