CD Review: Live Close By, Visit Often - K.T. Oslin

When I listen to the new K.T. Oslin album, "Live Close By, Visit Often," I am reminded of the music of The Mavericks and Patsy Cline. I mention The Mavericks because Raul Malo co-wrote several songs on this album and gave K.T.'s music a cool new twist by adding a lot of what I consider the Mavericks' signature sounds. The Patsy Cline reference was made due to the strength and emotion that K.T. Oslin puts into her music. Patsy was as cutting edge in her day as K.T is on this album.

In a perfect world "Live Close By, Visit Often," the title track from the album, would go #1 immediately and stay there forever! This upbeat tune, which was written by Oslin, Kostas and Malo, is the perfect solution to the world's soaring divorce rates.

"I Can't Remember Not Loving You" is my 2nd favorite song from the album. "I may not remember where my keys are, and I may forget where I parked my car, but let me tell you - I can't forget how you made me feel the night we met. I can't remember not loving you."

"Neva Sawyer" is the story of Neva (a high wire walker) and Bruno (the circus strong man). Neva was somewhat of a trouble maker and partier. Bruno always tagged along with her to keep her out of trouble. This song is somewhat reminiscent of the Barry Manilow tune of the 1970's, "Copacabana."

"Moment Of Forever" is a song that was written by Kris Kristofferson. I have listened to a lot of his music and I have to say that this is his best song ever! K.T.'s beautiful voice and Kris's words are perfect combinations. It's not too often that a song makes me cry. Listen to this tune with a full box of Kleenex handy.

"Mexico Road" is K.T. in a new jazzed up style that very much becomes her.

"Maybe We Should Learn To Tango" is a song that could be a sad sequel to Oslin's early hit "Hold Me." For those of you who are not familiar with the above mentioned song, it details a conversation between a husband and a wife and how they start to leave their marriage, and then turn around and come back home. Tango kind of picks up where "Hold Me" left off. They have done all that they could do and things just don't seem to be working out.

I have been a K.T. Oslin fan since the 1980's, and I have to say that I enjoy each of her albums more then the last. This album is a definate must have. There are rumors circulating that K.T. is planning a permanent retirement from making music. I am using this opportunity to say. "K.T., DON'T DO IT!!!!" In this era of cookie cutter cloned country/pop divas we need and want you and your music desperately!
