This album is exactly what the title says, Live Classics. This CD is packed with 21 Classic Marty Robbins tunes recorded live on the Grand Old Opry stage between 1951 and 1960. While some of the older members of the Opry disapproved of Marty's use of trumpets onstage and the fact that he ran overtime with his shows, Marty remained a fan favorite there until his untimely death in 1982. I really enjoy the classic sounds that Marty offered. I don't think he ever released anything bad. He enjoyed experimenting with different musical sounds.

"Ain't You Ashamed" is the first song Marty performed onstage at the Opry. He tells her she should be ashamed to leave him after all the happiness she has brought him.

In "My Isle of Golden Dreams" you can hear the sound reminiscent of his future hit "El Paso." His voice has sort of a yodel quality to it throughout the song and you can hear the steel guitar featured prominently.

"Call Me Up and I'll Come Calling On You" is a very up-tempo song. It is a short little song telling her that he is there for whenever she is ready.

"That's All Right" is a countrified version of the Elvis Presley hit. While not too bad, I'm definitely more used to the Elvis version. This version is quite a bit toned down.

"I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)" is a true Marty Robbins Classic. It has his "crying country" style of singing. She is with another, but he loves her still. He keeps singing "I can't help it if I'm still in love with you..."

"Singing The Blues" is the song that made Marty Robbins a household name. It has a style reminding you of Hank Williams "Lovesick Blues." She has left him and now he is left singing the blues.

"Knee Deep In The Blues" relies heavily on some fancy piano work in the background. It gives it a different sound. Life is just generally not going well for now and he is "knee deep in the blues."

"A White Sport Coat" is probably one of the first Marty Robbins' songs that I can remember hearing. It is definitely a song that I associate with Marty. He is all dressed up with nowhere to go. She has found another.

"The Story Of My Life" has a different sound to it as well. It includes some whistling throughout the song. He wants the world to know how exciting it was to meet her and go through life's little trials and tribulations. This is a fun, up-beat song. He says the story of his life begins and ends with her.

"Sweet Lies" yet another musical style is introduced. Has a "plucking" sound on the guitars and is up-tempo. He is watching a former love tell other poor saps her "sweet lies," building them up and them dropping them for another.

"El Paso" closes the album. This is probably the song that almost everyone thinks of when they think of Marty Robbins. It is a great song of love in the old west.

This album offers the Marty Robbins' collector 21 classic hits in one spot. It is also the perfect collection of music for someone just starting to pick up music from Marty. There are one or two songs in this collection that Marty often performed in his live shows but he never recorded elsewhere. It certainly gave me well over an hour of great entertainment and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.
