Melt is the sophomore project for Rascal Flatts. Their self-titled debut was quite successful, selling Platinum. In fact, they are one of only three groups to do this as a debut artist, the other two being the Dixie Chicks and SHeDAISY. Having said that, I have to say that Melt is just as good if not even better than their debut album. So, no sophomore slump here.

The first single from the album, "These Days," talks about a relationship that's over, but the guy just can't stop thinking about the girl, checking his answering machine to see if maybe she called, and dreaming of her nightly. The song is sitting in the Top 10 this week at No. 8, and rising. There is also a great video to go with the song that is getting a lot of airplay as well.

When I saw Rascal Flatts recently, they opened their show with "Too Good Is True," and the crowd really seemed to really enjoy it. It's a very upbeat song, and I know this will do well as a single. "I have seen the light of day. Love is finally going my way. Is it too good to be true? Give me one more kiss, one more touch. Baby, I just can't get enough of you. This time, too good is true."

If you loved "I'm Movin' On," you'll really love the soulful ballad, "I Melt." This is an awesome song co-written by Gary LeVox with Neil Thrasher and Wendell Mobley. Definite power ballad, and it's a definite single. "The closer you get, the more my body aches. One little stare from you is all that it takes."

"Mayberry" is a nostalgic look back in time. This is a lot of fun, and you get to hear a lot of those wonderful Rascal Flatts harmonies. The song actually sounds like something that Diamond Rio would sing. "I miss Mayberry, sitting on the porch drinking ice cold cherry Coke. Where everything is black and white. Pickin' on the six string. People pass by and you call them by their first name. Watchin' the clouds roll bye."

"Love You Out Loud" talks about being in love and not having any problem shouting it out for all to hear. This one has lots of fiddles in it. Very cool.

"Dry County Girl" is one of the most country songs on Melt. It's about a Preacher's daughter who doesn't fool around before she marries and doesn't drink. She tells him "They'll be time for all of that, when my dress is white, and your suit is black." This one was co-written by Marcus Hummon and Chuck Jones.

I've always been a sucker for ballads, and "Like I Am" fits the bill perfectly. The song was co-written by Joe Don Rooney and Danny Orton. I totally love this song. "When you say that I'm one of a kind, baby I don't see it, but you believe that. I'm so strong and true, I promise you, I'll try to be that kind of man, because you love me like I am." After "I Melt," this is my second favorite song on the album.

"You" is another really pretty ballad. He says that no matter where he goes, there is only one thing that he can't do without, and that's her.

"Fallin' Upside Down" is another song talking about love making you crazy, like in "Too Good Is True."

The song "Shine On" was co-written by all-three members of Rascal Flatts. It's another upbeat song that sings "Shine on, shine on shine on me. Whenever something's missing, you're exactly what I need. Your love has shown me the light, and now I finally see. So, shine on, shine on, shine on me." This is one you want to listen to when you're feeling down, cuz it will bring you back up with it's happy message, and upbeat music.

The final song, "My Worst Fear" was co-written by Anthony Smith with Al Anderson. It talks about a relationship where the guy wants to leave, but the girl leaves instead, and then he realizes what a mistake it was, and how alone he is going to be. He says "It's gonna be hard to tell you that I'm leaving, now that I know how much you care. You finally gave me one good reason, not to go. Staying here is my worst fear."

If you have enjoyed the music you've heard from Rascal Flatts before, you will enjoy this album as well. If you're looking for traditional country, you might want to check out Kevin Denney or Brad Martin. Rascal Flatts have great harmonies, and these songs are all really good. I enjoyed them, and hope you'll give them a try as well.
