Honky-tonks and bars better watch out, because the guys of Montgomery Gentry are back in full-force with My Town. The guys continue their tradition of singing about little things that are important to them. They want people to hear about having their hearts broken in one song and then going out and having a raucous time drinking in the next one.

A song that pretty much defines what the duo's past music has been about (which is why it is a perfect first single), My Town is chock full of hometown pride and small town values such as going to church every Sunday, talking with others at a diner, and lowering the American flag every day when the sun starts to go down. No matter where you go or how successful you are, people should remember the small things and not get wrapped up in glamour.

Troy takes center stage as he sings about a scarecrow's experience out in the fields in "Scarecrow." In this up-tempo tune, the scarecrow is proud of what he does but that does not stop him from dreaming about running away from the simple life. Every person goes through this stage at least once in their life, where they wonder what is over the hills and wish for change, but many are too scared to do anything about it. The feeling you get from the lyrics is that you should give it a shot because you never know what will happen until you give things a try and it could be the best decision you ever made.

In true Montgomery Gentry style, the guys get a little rowdy with "Bad For Good," where listeners hear about the guys giving up the bad life in exchange for going to church and giving up their drinking habit. After awhile, they decide along with a bartender that they are tired of being good and so they make a promise that they will be bad and stay that way. They say, "We're gonna wind it up tonight, a little tighter than we should. Yeah, for better or worse, we're gonna be bad for good" as the song progresses. Troy loves having his bad reputation while Eddie sings about how they are going to be the first to close down every honky-tonk bar that they go to.

Eddie's rough voice sounds spectacular on "Lonesome," a slow song about a woman leaving him without any notice whatsoever. Even though he feels so much pain and hurt inside, he says that you win some and you lose some because he knows this is something he has to get over and move on from because feeling lonely for the rest of his life is not going to do him any good at all.

"For The Money" has a mixture of singing and spoken words, which really emphasizes the storyline. The whole message of the song is that you should not do things just to get rich, you should help people in any way that you can while you can because money comes and goes at the drop of a hat. A person could have all of the money in the world and still be a sad and depressed individual - money does not always buy happiness.

You never know what will be the topic of the next song as you listen, which adds an extra element of fun to an already fun album. Armed with some of the best songwriters along with the undeniable spark between the duo, you get one great hillbilly rock country album that is on the same high playing field as their previous two releases.
