Walt Disney records released an album that will make it fun to dabble in bluegrass a little. They have taken several of their movie soundtracks, given them a distinctive bluegrass flavor and invited some of the major artists of that genre to sing their favorite. The result is a fun listen for the entire family. Artists such as Ronnie Milsap, Collin Raye, Sonya Isaacs, Elizabeth Cook, Charlie Louvin, Stonewall Jackson and many more have lent their voices to this great project.
One of my favorite tracks has to be "Circle of Life" by Collin Raye. I like that song a lot, and am also a fan of Collin Raye, so this combination could be nothing but great. They re-arranged the song a little and incorporated a timeless country favorite into it as well. Fans will recognize the melody of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" intertwined throughout the song, and it gives that little "extra" that makes it extra special.
My youngest daughter's favorite track is "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" by Elizabeth Cook. This is a song they are currently doing in her second grade music class and she was jumping up and down when she heard this. It is a whimsical tune that is fun to listen to.
Any young child worth their salt can sing "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and impress the grownups with that huge word. This song is done as an instrumental and in the style of dueling banjos. It is a toe-tapping tune.
The first movie I ever went to see in a theater was The Jungle Book. I was three years old and I still remember that experience. Stonewall Jackson helps relive the memories with "The Bare Necessities." He pretty much kept it the way it is supposed to be and it is still fun to listen to. Listening to it makes me want to pop in the video and sit down with some popcorn.
My favorite artist of all time is Ronnie Milsap, and he makes an appearance to sing "When You Wish Upon A Star." With Ronnie's smooth voice, this is the perfect nighttime lullaby to relax with.
The bottom line is that this album is perfect family entertainment. The kids will enjoy the familiarity of the songs and the adults will enjoy the arrangements. The album would fit into any music library with ease. It is a CD that is just fun to listen to and it brings out the kid in everyone.
