Patty Loveless is sticking to her roots, and there is no question that it is where she belongs. On Your Way Home is an album packed full of songs that are perfect for Patty's soulful voice. There are some drums, electric guitar and bass along with some twin fiddles that will knock your socks off. Overall, however, they showcase the acoustic side of things and Patty's voice shines in the spotlight. Her husband, Emory Gordy Jr., produced the album for Pauldin County Productions, Inc. and it is released by Epic Records.

The album starts out with an up-tempo song about a woman done wrong. "Draggin' My Heart Around" is all about the woman who sticks with her man. He promises to love her and never leave her lonesome, but that isn't what happens.

"I Wanna Believe" is about a woman admitting to herself that she knows he isn't all he says he is. He is smooth, but the woman's intuition is turned on in full force. It has a toe-tapping tempo to go with the lyrics.

The title track, "On Your Way Home," is a slower tempo song. He is sneaking through the house in the middle of the night. She wonders where he went on his way home and if he thinks he is really fooling her.

"Born Again Fool" is a turnaround from the majority of the "he did me wrong" songs. It is a "she did me wrong song. The slow tempo is a background for the sad story of a man who gave all he had. She took it all and gave nothing back. Everything he did was not enough to make her stay.

There are so many songs of love gone wrong, that it was refreshing to hear "Higher Than the Wall." In this song, she tells the story of a woman who built her wall so high that she didn't think anything could climb it to get inside. He came, climbed the wall and gave her his love.

"Lovin' All Night" is a purely fun song. Rodney Crowell wrote and recorded this song a few years ago, and Patty has done an excellent job covering it. It is the first single release from the album and is rapidly climbing the charts. It is very up beat and it is almost impossible not to get up and move along with it. It is about two people loving each other and having a great time doing it.

This album is an absolute must for the Patty Loveless fan. If you aren't familiar with Patty and her music, but love traditional country music sung from the heart, then this is the perfect album to start your collection. You won't be disappointed. Whether you like fast, slow, happy or sad, this album has it all. Also included in the package is a special collector's edition DVD. It has footage from Austin City Limits with "Here I Am," "Pretty Little Miss" and "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive." It also has the video for "Lovin' All Night" along with a photo gallery of publicity photos and the credits. Bottom line is that this is a CD sure to be a favorite from the first time you listen.
