How did you become a Garth fan?

Ken writes...

I have been a Garth fan since I heard "Much Too Young" playing one day on the radio, but the song that really, really hit home with me was "The Thunder Rolls"... I was a nineteen year old kid who had cheated on his girlfriend of two years one night, and the next day I heard this song and it really hit home... I saw myself as the jerk in the song who cheated on his wife, not as the hero that my buddies played me up to be for taking home this woman... Now I never hit my girlfriend or anything like that, but the whole idea of cheating really got to me, and I confessed to her what I did, and it took some time, but she finally forgave me. Now we are the proud parents of two beautiful kids... so everytime I hear that song, it takes me back to my awful past, and I thank God for the second chance that I've taken
full chance of...

Thank You!!!

James writes...

"The Dance" was being played at a bar that I was in while stationed in Kingsbay, and I was asked by a woman to dance to it. I bought the CD so I could hear the song, and was hooked from then on.

Olivia writes...

I am a dancer, and I went out and bought a Garth Brooks CD to dance to country, along with Shania Twain's. Well anyways, I was visiting a couple of friends in New York City, and saw all the signs all across Broadway, and the huge billboard with Garth on it. And I told my friends I would be coming back to see him. I didn't even know how much money it was going to cost, and didn't care.

I ended up going to the concert by myself, and met up with some really nice people from Tennessee. They stayed with me, which was cool... We slept in the park so we would get great seats... Well we ended up going to the show, and had a blast. I had front row, right on the left side of the stage, and on the right side of the walkway (where Garth got down to get flowers and say hello to friends). It was a great spot FRONT ROW... Woo hoo... Anyways, I had a blast. I cried and laughed, and Garth touched me, and made me realize what it is like to perform, and to show people how you appreciate them showing up and giving a darn...

Well, Garth you touched my soul and my heart with your words and your singing, and your band, (how close you all are), and you touched my life by showing me there is a way to live life to the fullest with your song "The Dance," and your other song "Unanswered Prayers."

Thank You Garth, for coming to New York, and for making a difference in my life... I will never give up on myself or you...

Monica writes...

Well, I hated country music...thought it was only for "old people." Then, I heard "Friends in Low Places"... that is what switched me around... and haven't turned the radio off since. I even saw Garth in Sheffield, England! He wasn't much more than a pin dot... but what a wonderful concert. Hasn't made a bad song yet. Just love the Garthman.

Angela writes...

Well, for my tenth X-mas, under the tree were three CD's. Alan Jackson, Tracy Byrd, and... you got it, Garth Brooks... The CD was "Fresh Horses," and ever since, I've been a huge Garth fan!!!!!

Believe it or not, I bought a Pioneer Laserdisc Player a few years back, and the gift you got when you bought it was "This is Garth Brooks." I remember being very unhappy about that because I wanted the Disney film they had been giving away just the day before. Well, it was free, so I took it. Sure., I'd heard of him and all, but when I saw that performance, I was hooked.

Becky writes...

My mom actually got me started. She's a big country fan, and always got on my case for not liking the music. She kept telling me to "listen to this one song by Garth Brooks, you'll love him, he's not like any other." So, I finally listened to "Shameless," and was immediately hooked!!!

I went out and bought his CD's and 4 months later, I went to his concert in Oakland. THE BEST SHOW I have ever seen! He rocked the house and blew me away! I have been to many concerts, but nothing compared to Garth.

Over the past 5-6 years, I have followed Garth and all that he has done. He is such an incredible human being. I was fortunate enough to see him again for the 2nd (& 3rd) times at the San Jose Arena on August 29th & 31st. Again, he blew me away! My head is still in the clouds. I only hope I do not have to wait another 5 years before seeing him again. He is truly an amazing man, solid gold from head to toe.

Carmen writes...

I remember seeing him on a country music awards show, and being very impressed. I went out and bought his first album, and have been buying his music ever since. His intensity, strength and romanticism comes across in every song.

Mike writes...

A friend of mine got me to listen to "In Pieces," and I became hooked. Now I listen to all of his stuff and I enjoy it alot. He is now my favourite artist. Until then I never listened to country. Now I listen to almost
nothing else.

Sandy writes...

While I like "Much Too Young," I didn't really perk up my ears until "The Dance." At that point, Garth had done a song so close to my heart, I'd have loved him for it forever.

Then that July, during Fan Fair, Garth did a mini-concert at "Tower Records." I stayed up way past my bedtime to hear him, and stood in line for his autograph. Before I left home, I had added pages to an autograph book which includes signatures of George Jones, Johnny Horton, Jim Reeves, etc. As I told Garth, I thought he belonged in that 40-year-old book, and I expected to still be a fan "forty years from now." Garth came around that autograph table and gave me the biggest hug!

Since then, I haven't seen anything to make me less than a whole-heart Garth fan -- and I expect it to stay that way.

Nancy writes...

Five and 1/2 years ago, a friend told me to watch the upcoming 1992 Garth TV special. I did, and I was "hooked" the moment I heard him sing "Unanswered Prayers" and "The Dance. I could not believe words/sentiments like that could come from a man as young as he was! I was crying the first time I heard him.

Geena writes...

I became a Garth fan the very first time I heard his first album, "Garth Brooks." I'm always looking for new artists, so when I saw this album, not knowing who he was, I bought it. I fell in love with his music right away. Garth is my number one Country Singer. So much so, that when I had a son, I wanted to name him Garth, but my husband at the time, wouldn't allow it. So, he settled for me naming him: Nathan "Brooks."

My son is 5 years old now, and knows who Garth is, and that he got his middle name from Garth. He's also a Garth fan. He can recognize Garth's music anywhere! We love Garth!!

Teresa writes...

The first time I heard his music I was addicted. Then I saw him in concert on television, and bought all of his albums. Now I have seen him perform live, and am a GB fanatic!

God Bless Garth! (Better known as the G-man.)

Melodie writes...

I always sort of liked what I heard of him, then I dated a guy who was a Garth nut!!! After a while it rubbed off. Now I think I might even be a bigger fan than he is!!!
