English (British) writer and performer Paul Rutter has released a rarity in the UK, a country music CD. Different than anything that is released here in the USA, the CD is nevertheless a nice mixture of ballads and uptempo songs. Every Track was written by Paul and his vocals are strong with a quality that shows how much he really enjoys singing his songs.

Paul Rutter was born in Tyneside, England. Paul comes from a musical family and first learned the drums before learning the guitar, piano, bass and organ. Paul's "Heaven Can Wait" was recorded and released by international recording star Paul Young. Paul describes his CD as an Alt-Country collection of songs that showcase his influences like Steve Earle, Garth Brooks and Vince Gill.

"The Water Comes Rushin' In" opens up the CD. With bangin' drums, harmonica and a twangy song about a guy who wants his girlfriend to save him for a second time. This song is just the first indication of Paul's lyrical talents.

"The Best Of Me" has a guitar lick to it that suggests a heavy Vince Gill influence on this track. Again Paul's musical background and lyrics shine. Paul's vocals show an impassioned plea for a woman who has taken his heart, "The best of me."

Paul reprises the Paul Young hit that he wrote with "Heaven Can Wait." With the gorgeous lyrics and a presence of fiddle, this song has a heavy pop country sound. I think that given the "Nashville" treatment; this song could be a great hit for someone like keith urban, Vince Gill or a number of other artists.

"Won't Cry For Your Love" is probably the most "country sounding" of any of the tracks. There is a strong twangy guitar and some stellar steel guitar in the background. The theme of this track deals with the loss of a relationship.

"On The Tracks To Tennessee" is a song that one would assume to heavy country influences and it does. There is plenty of steel guitar, and a country styled piano and guitar sounds. With lyrics that talk of a guy searching for his girlfriend in Tennessee, this track is another good indication of a well written song that could be a hit if recorded by a singer from Nashville.

With a good mixture of tracks, Paul Rutter's Anything It Takes is a nice CD for those who are adventurous and want to hear something different.
