On March 8, 2003, Randy Travis took the stage at Silver Springs. He and his band make an impressive sight with their stage attire. Randy dresses in a very nice, western style suit with boots. His band members are all dressed in black shirts and black jeans.
Randy came out singing "Baby Come Back" to the whistles and cheers of the excited crowd. Randy has long been a favorite performer at Silver Springs and draws a fairly large attendance. The lawn was packed with lawn chairs for the show. While Randy doesn't do a whole lot of audience interaction or stage theatrics in his show, there is really no need for it. He has a great voice, and the audience is spellbound just listening to the hits rolling off his tongue. His sound system made him sound a little fuzzy, but you could still hear the songs just fine. One fan tossed a stuffed critter up on stage, which Randy caught mid-air, smiled his thanks, and set it by his microphone stand for the rest of the show.
This was one of Randy's first shows after being on Dr. ordered voice rest. He didn't miss a beat. Randy is not only a successful country artist, he has also recorded two very successful inspirational albums that have done well in both the country and the Christian fields. His current hit single, "Three Wooden Crosses," is receiving heavy airplay in both genres.
If you are looking for great music, I highly recommend seeing Randy Travis. All he really has to do is stand up and sing his songs. He has enough hits to keep you entertained for hours. I don't think I ever get tired of listening to his deep bass.
Set List:
Onstage, Randy seems at ease, and yet has this expression that seems to ask if the people in the audience are truly there just to hear him. That down-home attitude of 'one of the folks' is a big part of what draws the fans and keeps them there. As a grand finale to his show, a huge flag is unfurled during his last song. It is almost as big as the stage and had a profound effect on the audience. Everyone was instantly on their feet.
