He did a meet and greet before his performance, so he took the stage a few minutes late after accommodating the many fan club members that were present. He acknowledged the presence of his Chat Brats upon taking the stage, thanking them for their continued loyalty to his career. Sammy was dressed casually in a white shirt and jeans, and took the stage about 10:30 pm.
Sammy has been a presence in country music since the early 90s. He has had a variety of hits and performed several of them. He also went back to his "nightclub days," and performed some old standbys from other artists. He has a rapport with his audience, and it is easy to see why he is a fan favorite in concert. He will actually listen to people when they yell things at him, and follow through with a return question or comment. He did have to stop his show for a few minutes after catching someone videotaping his performance. While security took care of the issue, he had a seat and talked with the audience. Sammy is from Louisiana and throws out the Mardi Gras bead necklaces to the audience during his shows. I was very impressed with the fact that he takes care to make sure all the kids that go up to the stage get one of the necklaces. Along with his older hits, Sammy performed some cuts from his latest album, I Finally Found Someone. It is his duet album with Lorrie Morgan. Much to the delight of the crowd he played "Sugar," a song that he wrote. It is a very upbeat song, and definitely a crowd favorite. I left the concert very tired, but feeling like I received my moneys worth. Sammy puts on a good show and I think most people would enjoy it whether they are Sammy Kershaw fans or not.
