The much anticipated opening of the Shania Twain Centre, in Timmins, Ontario, Canada took place on Saturday June 30, 2001 with thousands of visitors from around the world touring the facility.
While I wasn't able to tour the centre on opening weekend I did get the opportunity this past weekend to "Come on over...come on in".
The $5.5 million, 1022-square metre Shania Twain Centre offers visitors a look at Shania's costumes, awards, personal mementos and video presentations.
The Centre has three themes: the life, career and music of Shania, the music industry in general, and details of life in Timmins when Shania was a resident.
Shania has donated over $1 million of personal items to the centre for vistors to get a glimpse of her life and achievements. Not all of the collection is shown at one time. Items are rotated so you get a new glimpse every time you visit. You can view some of the amazing costumes worn on stage by Shania and get a close look at the many awards she has won over the years.
I was mesmorized seeing all of her many awards and trophies gleaming in their cases. Some of the costumes on display on my visit included the beaded dress she wore to the Grammy's (see photo right), and her hot pink cowboy outfit.
The centre prides itself on the interactive aspect. Visitors can fill out a "Fan Note" to leave in the mailbox, or, sign the wall with personal thoughts and wishes. As well, you can try your hand at playing an interactive keyboard or play the electronic drums.
