Are you looking for something just a little different this year when it comes to holiday music? If so, then SHeDAISY's Brand New Year just might do the trick.
The sisters Osborn have created a very unique Christmas package which includes their hit Christmas tune from last year, Deck The Halls, which was featured in the Disney animated film, Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas, and adds 13 more Christmas songs, both old and new. Each one is SHeDAISY-fied as only they can do. If you're looking for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, you're looking in the wrong place. You won't find anything half-way traditional in these arrangements.
My favorite songs from this album would have to be "Deck The Halls," "What Child is This," and the fun combination of "Hark the Herald Angels Sing/Carol of the Bells." The latter combination was due to the fact that the girls couldn't decide which song to sing, so they arranged this amazing combination.
Fellow labelmates, Rascal Flatts join the girls with a "duet?" "sextet?" of sorts called "Twist of the Magi." This is a fun song to listen to. Make sure to pay close attention to the words. They'll crack you up! This one's got a lot of R&B overtones, and they sound great together.
All in all, this album may not be for every country fan, but it's a welcome contemporary addition to this reviewer's library of Christmas classics.
