Trisha Yearwood has one of the most powerful, and beautiful voices in country music. She can sing any style of music, and do it well. This Christmas release is very traditional, in arrangement, and style. There are gospel songs, traditional carols, new songs, a rockin' song written by Hank Snow, "Reindeer Boogie," a bluesy piece, "Santa Claus Is Back In Town," and Trisha covers Keith Whitley's "There's a New Kid In Town."
I think my favorite piece on the album would have to be a tie between the Skip Ewing-penned song, "It Wasn't His Child," and the title tune, "The Sweetest Gift," where Trisha and her sister Beth harmonize together, and it's pure heaven. It's also the most country-sounding song on the album.
While this album was recorded back in 1994, the songs, arrangements, and most of all, Trisha's beautiful voice are timeless. A must-have for any Christmas collection.
Purchase The Sweetest Gift.
