line Interview with Sherrié Austin
line

Sherrié Austin is releasing her third album, Followin' a Feelin' on March 20th. She took the time to answer some questions from our staff and our visitors.

Country Music Guide: What inspired you to do "Jolene?" Your remake sounds great!

Sherrié Austin: Dolly Parton has been an influence on my music from a very early age. I started singing "Jolene" at about age 13, but there is a whole new audience that has never heard this song and it is such a classic that it works just as well for a new generation.

Country Music Guide: How can someone get into your fan club?

Sherrié Austin: For Fan Club information write to:

Country Music Guide: Do you hope to achieve the level of superstardom Faith Hill and Shania Twain have achieved?

Sherrié Austin: My focus has always been on the music. I feel if my music touches people than I am already successful.

Country Music Guide: How would you describe your version of Dolly Parton's song, "Jolene," being different than the original?

Sherrié Austin: Doing a cover of such a classic song like "Jolene: is a very daunting task. My version is very guitar based, more Celtic sounding than folky. It has an edge to it that really fits in with the rest of my record.

Country Music Guide: If you could pick one favorite song off of each album that you have recorded, which ones would you pick?

Sherrié Austin: "You Keep On Loving Me" from Words, "Good Love Coming On" from Love In The Real World, and "Somethin' Missin' in the Kissin'" from Followin' a Feelin'.

Country Music Guide: Out of all the videos that you've made, what is your favorite one to make, and why?

Sherrié Austin: I think maybe the video for Jolene is my favorite because I really love the concept. I like the fact that our "Jolene" is not necessarily about one woman, but more about the impossibly perfect media image that all woman try to live up to.

Country Music Guide: Do you ever get onto the Internet and browse around websites devoted to you, or Country Music in general?

Sherrié Austin: No, but my brother and sister keep me very well informed.

Country Music Guide: What are your favorite songs to sing live?

Sherrié Austin: My favorite songs to sing live are, well pretty much everything on the new record because I've been singing the other songs for a few years now so it's really fun to sing the newer songs

Country Music Guide: Do you prefer to perform in small venues, or large ones?

Sherrié Austin: I really enjoy being on stage no matter what size the crowd. Each situation is unique and as long as the audience is having a good time it doesn't matter whether it's five hundred or five thousand.

Country Music Guide: What artist is your role model for your career?

Sherrié Austin: I have had many role models in my career. Some of my biggest influences are of course Dolly Parton, k.d. lang, Emmylou Harris and many other singer/songwriters.

Country Music Guide: If you could record a duet with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

Sherrié Austin: George Strait, Vince Gill, Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen. That 's quite an interesting mix don't you think?

Country Music Guide: Both you and Keith Urban are from Australia. Did you know each other before becoming famous stars?

Sherrié Austin: No, I met keith when I moved to Nashville. I don't see much of him because we are both out on the road a lot.
