CD Review: Stone Country - Reneé Olstead

line Reneé Olstead - Stone Country line

Nashville better make room for a new talented youngster because Reneé Olstead is on her way to making it big. Stone Country is her second album and has ten all-out country tunes on it.

Renee hosts her own YRN.TV Show that is on every Sunday at 4PM Eastern Time, which is available from yrn.tv

In the title cut, Reneé says that "Stone Country" is like a window to her soul because the words are real and it makes her feel like someone understands her troubles. She is right at home listening to songs like George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and singing along with the band.

"No Questions Asked" is about how the girl knows the guy would never ask her questions when she is late getting home, yet when the guy is late she has all sorts of scenarios flying around in her head. He leaves her but she tells him that she wants him back, no questions asked. "I don't care what happened use any old excuse, all that really matters is tonight I'll be with you." when she ran around he didn't want to know so say you can't remember and I'll just let it go."

Next up is a slow tune that has a Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight" musical feel to it. "Living On The Lonely Side of Love" is about a girl missing the guy that left her. Burning the old love letters makes her feel better and she says when she finds someone new she will not be lonely anymore and will forget everything she ever felt about him.

In the very up-tempo tune "They Never Made It To Memphis," Renee sings of a couple that wants to make a trip to Memphis but they never made it because they stopped at a hotel and then got married. Twenty years later after the kids were grown up and gone, they decided they still wanted to visit the home of Elvis but on the way they thought about years past and stopped off at a hotel yet again. "They never made it to Memphis, but they didn't care."

The self-penned "Reach Out" teaches us that we need to have faith in order to chase the gloom away. I like how there is clapping toward the end of the song, it reminds me of a live performance or songs being sung out on the porch with friends and family around joining in.
