line Tanya Tucker Concert Review

Reviewed by Jolene Downs

On Saturday, March 31, I attended a Tanya Tucker concert at Silver Springs, FL. After some concern as to whether she was going to make it on time, Tanya took the stage only slightly late at 3:15 pm. Her bus had broken down and they had to get another bus to collect her. It didn't roll into the area until just after 2:00 pm.

Tanya was dressed in one of the more casual outfits that I've seen her in - Turquoise Jeans, a Turquoise Tank Sweater and a sheer long sleeved shirt open over it. It was a gorgeous day out, not too hot and not too cold. It rained just enough to scare people, but then the sun came back out and it was beautiful.

Tanya Tucker

Tanya opened the concert very appropriately with "Trouble." She moved on to "I'll Come Back as Another Woman," "It Won't Be Me," "What Do I Do With Me," and "Strong Enough to Bend." Then, she did something I had never seen her do in one of her shows, she grabbed a chair and sat down for her next set. She sang "Jamestown Ferry," "What's Your Mama's Name," and "Blood Red and Going Down," all the while conversing with the audience. Then it was back on her feet and on to "Would You Lay With Me," "San Antonio Stroll," "Hanging In, Hanging On, and Hanging Out," "Soon," "Your Good Girl Is Going to Go Bad," "Step Back Non-Believer(?)," "Down To My Last Teardrop," "Two Sparrows In a Hurricane," and "A Little Too Late."

Tanya Tucker Then she brought all three of her children out and introduced them to the audience. Layla stole the show. What a cutie. All three of her kids are very neat. I was really impressed with her daughter, Presley. I have come to expect some of these kids to act a little spoiled, but these guys were very polite.

Tanya had been talking with the audience about various things throughout the concert. She really didn't vamp as much as she has done in the past, but I think her late show the previous night combined with the bus breakdown kind of wiped her out. She handed the microphone over to Presley to sing a song. It was the first time she had done that at a concert and was not rehearsed. Presley sang a cut that was co-written by Tanya's fiance Jerry Laseter. It also just happens to be the third cut from Gary Allan's Smoke Rings in the Dark album. Presley sang "Don't Tell Mama" acapella and did a phenomenal job! That kid can really sing. Tanya was joking she could see the land of retirement. I don't know about that, but I do look to see more of Presley in the public eye.

The concert was terrific. Tanya was born to be onstage performing. She knows how to handle the audience, and I love her voice. She closed the set with "Delta Dawn," bringing a little girl onstage to help her sing it. I was busy elswhere and missed my daughter's singing "debut" but I did hear her singing. She was very excited about her moment of fame. She also surprised Tanya with the fact that she knew all the words to the song - apparently many 10 year olds don't know that song. Aside from the fact that it was my daughter, I think it is neat that she does that as a part of her show. It really helps connect her to her fans.
