My favorite songs on the CD are the instrumental and vocal versions of "Irelands Green Shore" It's about the Scots-Irish immigrants and the coming together of the Old World (Ireland and Scotland) and the new (The Appalachian mountains of the United States). The second song on the CD, "A Mountaineer Is Always Free" is about the immigrants and why they left their countries (to escape religious persecution and changing politics). "Into The West" is about the homesickness the immigrants faced. "Wagoneer Lad" a really great duet with Tim and Kathy Mattea. For all you Kathy fans... this is the same Tim that sang "Battle Hymn of Love" with Kathy. "Down In The Garden" is rather morbid in subject matter but Tim, (with Paul Brady) does a great job of singing it! "The Kid On The Mountain" is an awesome mandolin instrumental. "Lord McDonald/Cumberland Gap" is a really great instrumental featuring Earl Scruggs, Frankie Gavin, (a great Irish fiddler), and Tim on mandolin. "Talkin Cavin' is a really great account of Tim's trip to Ireland to try to find his great grandfathers old homestead. The local natives all turned up their noses at him. It's really funny. "The Ribbon In Your Hair," my other favorite song on this album is a great song about love lasting always and the memories made through the years. Here is the full songlist:

I have to say that I'm very impressed with Tim's "The Crossing" CD. It's a very cool CD celebrating the meshing together of Irish and American folk music worlds.
