CD Review: The Other Sessions - Jim Lauderdale

Jim Lauderdale very proudly calls his latest album "Hard Country." I call it the most traditional sounding honky tonk album in years. It's fabulous.

"If I Were You" is a very cool Buck Owens sounding tune.

"Just To Get To You" is a medium tempo tune that Jim wrote with Melba Montgomery.

"I'd Follow You Anywhere" is my absolute favorite song from the album. To me it really says what marriage is all about.

"What's On My Mind" is a really great song that Jim wrote with one of my new favorite singers Leslie Satcher.

"Merle World" is a good old honky tonk style tune. You know the story. Guy starts partying too much and loses everything that is important to him. "He's Living In Merle World. All Alone And Missing His Girl. He Played His Hand And Lost Again. He Is A Fool That Will Never Win."

"You'll Know When It's Right" is a great tune that Jim wrote with another of my favorite country song writers, the legendary Harlan Howard.

"Honky Tonk Haze" is a good song that has a Jerry Lee Lewis feel to it. I am a big fan of songs that include a great honky tonk piano and a steel guitar.
