This was written a few days after the September 11th terrorist attacks. My father was a soldier in the Army in the 50s and always flew a flag to show his patriotism. I had just lost him in a car wreck six months before the attacks took place, so I wrote my feelings down. I never really intended for this to be a song. It was originally titled Angry American.
Ive had this song written for a couple of years but never could get the melody quite right. Last year I was at home and just struck the perfect melody for it. Its about a young woman and a sugar daddy who cant get their love life in order.
I wrote this with Chuck Cannon. Weve had a lot of co-writing success we always seem to land on something cool. I have always had a passion for Mexico, and I have great memories of the time Ive spent down there. The production here is very fun, very me at least I think so. Fiesta Señorita.
Sometimes I draw inspiration from current events. This is one of those times. I felt like writing this song with a good mood approach during very blue times. No matter how bad it may appear to be in this country, we still live in the best place in the world. Period.

I had this title forever, and when Scott Emerick came up with a neat little melody lick, the two just went hand-in-hand. The song was written prior to September 11th. Its about justice, but more so about the law of the Old West. It truly depicts how I feel about our justice system today. I had the privilege of having an American icon and hero of mine sing on here with me: Willie Nelson. Awesome.

I love this it sounds very rootsy to me. It reminds me of what I always wanted to grow up and sing: country. I wrote it with Scotty. Its my favorite vocal on the album.

This song is almost a nursery rhyme. It was also written with Chuck Cannon. At first blush of the rose, I didnt expect it to be so well received, but its really grown on me. My kids flipped out over it and sing it all the time.

This is what happens when you mix great melody with great content. Its not completely autobiographical now, but really closer to me as a 20-year-old. I still carry most of these true colors with me.

Me and Scotty had this idea about two very stubborn people who cant live with, and cant live without, each other. Im very proud of this I think its well crafted.

This is the most pop thing on the album. It might not seem like much of a stretch outside the box lyrically, but its very rewarding to sing. It feels fresh to me because I havent done one of these pop power ballads in a long time. My good buddy Lari White dropped in to sing backgrounds. Shes killer!

A few years ago, me and Chris LeDoux hooked up on an idea he had about a couple out traveling the rodeo circuit. Ive always been a rodeo fan and a LeDoux fan. I watched him ride in the National Finals in Oklahoma City when I was a kid, so it was cool to lend some of my songwriting skills to a real cowboy. I hope youre doin well, Chris.

This is about a man whod try anything to save a love if he thought it would do any good. I had this chorus for a while but never really nailed it with a complete song idea. Scotty got a little groove goin that was almost haunting, and I opened up this idea to him and poof magic.
