Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue (The Angry American)(Toby Keith)
This was written a few days after the September 11th terrorist attacks. My father was a soldier in the Army in the ‘50s and always flew a flag to show his patriotism. I had just lost him in a car wreck six months before the attacks took place, so I wrote my feelings down. I never really intended for this to be a song. It was originally titled “Angry American.”

Who's Your Daddy? (Toby Keith)
I’ve had this song written for a couple of years but never could get the melody quite right. Last year I was at home and just struck the perfect melody for it. It’s about a young woman and a sugar daddy who can’t get their love life in order.

Good To Go To Mexico (Toby Keith, Chuck Cannon)
I wrote this with Chuck Cannon. We’ve had a lot of co-writing success – we always seem to land on something cool. I have always had a passion for Mexico, and I have great memories of the time I’ve spent down there. The production here is very fun, very me – at least I think so. Fiesta Señorita.

It's All Good (Toby Keith, Scott Emerick)
Sometimes I draw inspiration from current events. This is one of those times. I felt like writing this song with a “good mood” approach during very blue times. No matter how bad it may appear to be in this country, we still live in the best place in the world. Period.

Beer For My Horses with Willie Nelson (Toby Keith, Scott Emerick)

I had this title forever, and when Scott Emerick came up with a neat little melody lick, the two just went hand-in-hand. The song was written prior to September 11th. It’s about justice, but more so about the law of the Old West. It truly depicts how I feel about our justice system today. I had the privilege of having an American icon and hero of mine sing on here with me: Willie Nelson. Awesome.

Losing My Touch (Toby Keith, Scott Emerick)

I love this – it sounds very rootsy to me. It reminds me of what I always wanted to grow up and sing: country. I wrote it with Scotty. It’s my favorite vocal on the album.

Huckleberry (Toby Keith, Chuck Cannon)

This song is almost a nursery rhyme. It was also written with Chuck Cannon. At first blush of the rose, I didn’t expect it to be so well received, but it’s really grown on me. My kids flipped out over it and sing it all the time.

It Works For Me (Toby Keith, Scott Emerick)

This is what happens when you mix great melody with great content. It’s not completely autobiographical now, but really closer to me as a 20-year-old. I still carry most of these true colors with me.

Ain't It Just Like You (Toby Keith, Scott Emerick)

Me and Scotty had this idea about two very stubborn people who can’t live with, and can’t live without, each other. I’m very proud of this – I think it’s well crafted.

Rock You Baby (Toby Keith, Scott Emerick)

This is the most pop thing on the album. It might not seem like much of a stretch outside the box lyrically, but it’s very rewarding to sing. It feels fresh to me because I haven’t done one of these pop power ballads in a long time. My good buddy Lari White dropped in to sing backgrounds. She’s killer!

Rodeo Moon (Toby Keith, Chris LeDoux)
©2002 Tokeco Tunes (BMI); Horsekiller Music (BMI) A few years ago, me and Chris LeDoux hooked up on an idea he had about a couple out traveling the rodeo circuit. I’ve always been a rodeo fan and a LeDoux fan. I watched him ride in the National Finals in Oklahoma City when I was a kid, so it was cool to lend some of my songwriting skills to a real cowboy. I hope you’re doin’ well, Chris.

That's Not How It Is (Toby Keith, Scott Emerick)

This is about a man who’d try anything to save a love if he thought it would do any good. I had this chorus for a while but never really nailed it with a complete song idea. Scotty got a little groove goin’ that was almost haunting, and I opened up this idea to him and “poof” – magic.
