Overview:
It's been almost two years since his last album, Ten Rounds hit the shelves, and with this release Tracy proves it was worth the wait! The Truth About Men is an impressive collection of carefully chosen songs that compliment Byrd's voice well, and showcase one of Nashville's shining stars. I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of Tracy's, but this album could just make me one. From ballads to fast dance tunes, Byrd delivers ten strong tracks of new music, along with a live version of his recent hit "Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo."
Stand Out Tracks:
"Drinking Bone" is a clever twist on drinking themed songs, where in this case drinking is just one link in a chain of trouble that leads to more drinking. You could call it the circle-of-life for lonely men, but I'll just call it a great song.
With "You Feel Good" Tracy gives us one of his trademark slow love ballads, which he delivers well showing a slight R&B touch. Women will love it, and guys will play it to make women love them.
"How'd I Wind Up in Jamaica" is a fun, upbeat tune about waking up from drinking in a surprising situation, and then making the best of it. With it's Caribbean feel 'Jamaica' is probably my favorite song on the album, and could easily be a hit if released to country radio.
"That's What Keeps Her Getting By" plays well as an anthem for single mothers everywhere, struggling through her own life to make her children's lives better. It's an excellent song about love and commitment, without crossing singing/preaching line.
"Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo" (Live) is a song I just plain didn't like when it was released to radio, so I was therefore shocked by how much I enjoyed this new live cut! The live performance does everything for this song, allowing the listener to enjoy the feel of Tracy's stage show, and appreciate this party song in the proper atmosphere.
