When given the chance of a lifetime, all any artist can do is hope that the songs they select get accepted. For Ty Herndon, he was signed to a one song contract with Epic Records and had to pick his best single.
The song he picked was a winner. Choosing "What Mattered Most," Ty Herndon quickly saw the song climb the charts and arriving at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. After the success of the single, Ty Herndon then saw his debut CD with the same name released.
Four albums later, Ty Herndon has amassed enough hit singles to compile a greatest hits package. While the CD contains his nine of his biggest hits, there are three new tracks (from the scrapped original This is Ty Herndon CD) and his version of the Joe Cocker classic, "You Can Leave Your Hat On."
"If The Road Runs Out" is the first of the new tracks. With an uptempo beat about a man who professes he will be there waiting for her no matter how far she goes away from him, this song will most likely be a single from the CD. Ty's vocals are exceptional as usual while the production and instrumentation are crisp.
"A Few Short Years" is the first single off of the album. With the fiddle drenched uptempo sound, this track finds Ty singing much like he has on past hit songs. The lyrics are about a couple who take a risk and get married while not weighing the possible downfalls of the marriage.
"I'd Move Heaven And Earth" is one of those songs that are sure to melt the ladies hearts. With the soft and sensual sound of the hit "No Mercy," (surprisingly absent from the CD), the lyrics are about a guy who will do anything to please his girlfriend or wife.
Of the older tracks on the CD, Ty's second No. 1 Hit is a memorable one. "Living In A Moment" is simply one of those songs that say everything a guy likes to say to his girlfriend but cannot find a way to say the words.
Featuring the backing vocals of Sons of the Desert, "It Must Be Love" comes from Ty's third CD, Big Hopes. With lyrics which talk about just realizing that you're in love, this single quickly became a big hit for Ty.
Containing a haunting melody, "Loved Too Much" was a big hit from Ty's Living In A Moment CD. With the lyrics about a lonely guy who yearns to be loved, this song still resonates on every lonely soul who hears it.
While it wasn't the biggest hit Ty's ever had, "Heart Half Empty" is a beautiful ballad that shows Ty's soulful side. The song, about bitter lovers, is a duet with songwriter Stephanie Bentley (writer of "Breathe" and the wife to Diamond Rio's Brian Prout).
With these songs and other great tracks from Ty's four previous albums, This Is Ty Herndon: Greatest Hits is a wonderful collection that is sure to impress even the smallest of country music fans.
