CD Review: Who I Am - Jessica Andrews

line line line
Reviewed by Jennifer Webb

Who I Am is Jessica Andrews' sophomore release on DreamWorks Records, and even though the type of music is the same as on her debut album, this album deals with more mature topics. There are some fun songs also, but you can hear (as compared to her first album), that Jessica has grown up since Heart Shaped World was released. Her voice hits different notes that she never attempted on the first album, and all of the songs are wonderful.

"Now I Know" is the story of a breakup in which the girl wants the guy to listen to what she has to say because she understands the reasons he gave, but cannot live without him. She says that she was a fool and now she knows that she should become serious about the relationship because he could be gone in a minute.

She doesn't want to do anything but think about her love interest in "I Don't Like Anyone." No other guy she meets can compete with her crush and so she stares at the ceiling while thinking about him. The only thing she wants to do is go wherever he goes.

You better watch out what you do because in "Karma" it tells you that "What you do to others, is gonna get done to you." You can go out and have fun, but be careful and do the right things or you will have to deal with the consequences. This song is really upbeat and I think it should be the second video and single from this Album because of it's fun spirit.

The next track "Who I Am," is not only the title of the album, it is also the first single release and video. It sums up what this release is all about, who Jessica Andrews is right now at this point of her life.

Nothing else feels as good as his kisses in "Never Had It So Good." She realizes she is lucky to have him because he takes her breath away.

"Wishing Well," written by Annie Roboff and Phil Vassar, is a song about how with love and faith a long distance romance can work. A relationship can survive as long as you work through the problems and make it alright. "So far it's been so good, cross your fingers and knock on wood, and pray, and if it helps, go throw a dollar in the wishing well."

The last song on the Album, "Show Me Heaven" can also be found on the Dawson's Creek Soundtrack. It is a slow song about maturing emotionally and romantically at the same time. "I'm not denying, I'm frightened as much as you. Though I'm barely touching you, all shivers down my spine, and it feels divine. Oh, show me heaven. Cover me, leave me breathless. Show me heaven, please."
