Invention of the Nashville Sound
As Nashville saw its youth market dwindling, they mixed pop music elements into their production, creating the "Nashville Sound," so as to attract a more adult audience. Fiddles and steel guitars were out and string sections were in, as were backing vocalists. Some of the most popular artists of this era were Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves. This was also the period time where the same studio musicians played on everyone's recordings. These musicians became known as the "A-Team." Behind the scenes, the newly formed Country Music Associationpromoted the music, and the media began to notice the nationwide popularity of a phenomenon they called the Nashville Sound. In 1960, Time Magazine reported the Nashville was the second biggest recording center.
