Carolyn Dawn Johnson - Room With a View
Unless you are one of those people who read every line of every CD insert, you are probably like me and had never heard of Carolyn Dawn Johnson until just a few months ago. Having penned songs with or for artists like Chely Wright, Jo Dee Messina and SHeDAISY, I can’t believe she’s relatively unknown to the average country fan. All of that, however, is certain to change with the release of her first album Room with A View.
Covering every emotion from one end of the spectrum to the other, this CD is a great mix of songs. From the joy of a new love in "You Are," to the heartbreak she endures in "Georgia," she's got it all covered. In the middle, the optimistic outlook in "I'll Think Of You That Way," and "Love Is Always Worth The Ache" is refreshing. A favorite on the CD would have to be "Little Bit of This, Little Bit of That." I love the real life feel to the lyrics, “You know that life’s a contradiction and you can’t escape the fact, you gotta take a little bit of this, with a little bit of that," and the bluesy touch to the music makes the song a repeat listen.
Always glad to find a CD that doesn’t lean too far towards the pop side of country music, but doesn’t stick to the attitude of traditional country, I’d say Room With A View is without doubt a step in the right direction.
