Charlie Robison - Life of the Party
The first time I heard Charlie Robison I was not too keen on his music, until I actually payed attention when I heard him on the radio late one night. I immediately snatched up Life of The Party and I have listened to it hundreds of times. There is nothing on this album that I get tired of, and I am sure you would feel the same once you listened.
The songs Charlie writes are so vibrant and full of imagery that you feel you are right there smack dab in the middle of the song's situation as you listen to such wonderful songs as radio-friendly "Barlight" and "Poor Man's Son." "Loving County" is a haunting tale about a man that loved a girl he later murdered and was locked up in a prison, confined to looking up at the east Texas sky through his cell window. Variety is found throughout the twelve songs, as demonstrated on the Tex-Mex flavored "Don't Call Me A Fool."
Charlie's extremely talented brother, Bruce, joins him on singing background vocals and that little touch alone adds volumes to an already extraordinary album. One month after Life of the Party was released, it hit the top ten on the Americana charts, and the rest is history.
