Phil Vassar - Phil Vassar
Phil Vassar was originally known as a hit songwriter. Some of his songs that he wrote were "Right On The Money" by Alan Jackson, "Little Red Rodeo" by Collin Raye and "I'm Alright" and "Bye, Bye" by Jo Dee Messina. After a showcase, Phil was signed to Arista Records by then and current Universal South President, Tim Dubois. Since that signing, Phil's debut CD was released in 2000 and it was co-produced by Phil which is a rarity for a new artist in Nashville.
There was five singles released from the CD. Four of them were Billboard Top 10 hits with the other one being a Top 25 hit. The singles were "Carlene," "Just Another Day In Paradise," "Rose Bouquet," "Six Pack Summer" and "That's When I Love You." "Paradise" was a multi-week No. 1 in the spring of 2001 for Phil.
Just because there won't be any more singles from this CD doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it. It has six other excellent tracks including the wonderful ballad "Like I Never Loved Before," which showcases a side of Phil that he rarely has shown, while "Didn't You Know She's Gone" showcases Phil's song craft with a Beatles style arrangement. I agree with some of the country music critics; Phil is "country music's own Billy Joel."
